Antal Dorati: how one note can make all the difference.
Do you have a favourite recording of 'Carneval Romain' overture?
For me everything depends on the last chord. I'm not a musician and anyway haven't seen the score but even if it's not somehow marked, those who play the ending without a fermata and huge stretching-out (subito rallentando?) of the last two chords are missing something.
I first heard that with Dorati. Beecham also knew how to sock it to them in that way.
